The star of the day for El Camino today was Marlon Poroj, who brought in two trophies and a certificate. His top honor was a 1st Place finish in Duo Interpretation with Emily Mercer. They finished with rankings of 1, 2, 1 and averaged 29 Speaker Points per round. Marlon also earned a 2nd Place trophy in Dramatic Interpretation and a Certificate of Excellence in Spontaneous Argumentation (SPAR).

However, the team’s top SPAR competitor today was Gabriel Salazar with a 6th Place finish. The skill set he has been developing in Congress this year is certainly transferring over quite well. Trailing Gabriel by about 3-4 ranking points was the rest of the team. At the forefront of that group were Cassidy Block and Shawn Haq, each earning Certificates of Superiority. Jasmine Moheb had the same ranking total (8) as Cassidy and Shawn, and actually had more speaking points than them, but she ended up seeded just behind them because they both earned a “1” ranking in one other their rounds. Thus, she led the Certificate of Excellence group, which also included Marlon and Naomi Raal.

In Impromptu, El Camino sent eight students into the storm, and three emerged with awards in-hand. Teddy Yerxa and Albert Tang earned trophies with their 9th and 11th Place finishes out of a field of approximately 100 competitors. Mustafa Waheb was only one ranking point behind Albert and went home with a Certificate of Superiority, the award level just below the trophy tier.
